MIPBlog spoke to Patrick Walker, formerly in charge of TV partnerships at YouTube, and now chief content officer for Base79, at MIPCOM 2013. base79 specialises in optimising video content for online platforms like YouTube, notably via packaging, distribution and advertising support.
“I’ve been coming here for ten years, and a lot has changed” said Walker; “but I’m still surprised by how many content creators and rights owners still have yet to explore channels like YouTube.” Which is largely why Base79 exists, says Walker; “because there is gold in those hills, if you know where to dig. So we’ve been advising people to at least try it out, to dip a toe in the water, because the learning is just as valuable as the revenue; and if you get the learning bit right, then you can actually start to generate significant revenue from the platform.”
